Government has lifted the regulation requiring goods to be sanitised on arrival at South Africa’s ports, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has just announced.
“If goods have been at sea for many days there is no need for them to be sanitised because the virus will have died by the time they reach the port.
“And as we get ready to lift the lockdown in an orderly manner we must start decongesting the ports so that once exporters and manufacturers are ready to start moving their goods they are not faced with a congested port.”
This was one of a raft of amendments announced at midday today.
