Repair and maintenance of cranes is hardly a traditional career path for a woman, but that’s what Thulile Zulu has been doing for the past thirteen months, working as an electrician in the cranes workshop at the Durban Container Terminal. She studied electrical engineering and prior to joining TPT worked as an electrician at an electrical company. “In this job you learn something new every day. It makes me feel proud to prove to everyone that women are more than capable of performing technical roles.” She lives in Albert Park in Durban and was born in Port Shepstone. To unwind from her technical job she enjoys shopping, playing netball and listening to music. CAPTION Thulile Zulu … ‘Women are more than capable of performing technical roles.’
