The French government has welcomed the announcement of the lifting of an embargo on French beef and offal imports by South Africa.
In a joint statement, Stéphane Le Foll, minister of Agriculture, Agri-food and Forestry, and Matthias Fekl, state secretary in charge of foreign trade, noted that this was a result of a five-year negotiation between the respective governments.
The statement, posted on the French Embassy in South Africa website, pointed out that negotiations were still under way to allow the reopening of meat (with bones) in South Africa.
