Ford South Africa on Thursday announced it would be creating 1 200 new jobs as its Silverton Plant in Pretoria as it moves to a 24-hour operation.
The company recently invested R3 billion to expand capacity at the plant.
It will now implement a third shift allowing 24 operating hours each day to meet growing export demand.
“The Automotive Production and Development Programme and the recently announced Automotive Masterplan has a clear programme of doubling employment in the sector – Ford SA in an indication that these ambitions are making progress,” trade, industry and competitions minister Ebrahim Patel said.
