I t is now easier for importers and exporters to trade with northern Mozambique and Malawi following the acquisition of a total of 23 new truck/trailer combinations by TransTech Logistics. “We have just taken delivery of thirteen new truck/trailer combinations and we have a further ten truck/trailers on order. “This will push the combined South African and Malawian fleets to almost 100 vehicles,” says Hilton Tait, business development manager at TransTech Logistics. This creates capacity for agricultural and other exports out of northern Mozambique and Malawi into South Africa. Expansion of the northern Mozambican routes will be largely dictated by the availability of southbound loads to South Africa. The additional trucks will also serve the Beira – Malawi Corridor. “With the increase in fleet capacity, TransTech Malawi will gain control of most of the Malawian-registered fleet and use these to increase market share in the commodity trade from Malawi to Beira and the return loads of container traffic from the port back into Malawi.” TransTech will also have the capacity to assist with the transport of cargo for the LNG projects in the region. “We are in discussion with a few of the bigger players who are setting up offices in Mozambique in hope of gaining market share in this project business,” he says.
