The Namibian ports authority, Namport, has just advertised a tender for a feasibility study for its planned third port in the country. It will be located on the Skeleton Coast, at either Cape Fria or Angra Fria.
According to a report by Namibian newspaper New Era, the feasibility study will include onshore and offshore geotechnical studies. The estimated cost of the port is over R10 billion.
One of the means of funding could be a public-private partnership (PPP) framework, said Namport, adding that a potential anchor business would be iron-ore exports from the numerous iron-ore deposits in northern Namibia.
The study for the ministry of works and transport has a 24-month deadline.
The new seaport will be added to Namibia’s current ports at Lüderitz and Walvis Bay.
