Lovemore Bros has expanded its footprint and service offering to the mining industry. While the company originally serviced the sector through its warehousing and low beds divisions based out of KZN, it has added mechanical projects and heavy rigging divisions to expand its reach. With projects for Anglo American and Exxaro under its belt, it has developed a variety of skills and technical capabilities, says Julie Nel, manager of the mechanical projects division.“Our services are far more diversified than just that of a logistics operator.“They range from lifting, storage and transport to rigging and project management.”The company also has a range of specialised rigging equipment to service the sector – from strand jacks and hydraulic gantries to multiaxle trailers and pick and carry cranes.“Presently we see a trend of South African mining assets moving offshore. Much of the mining-related assets that we handle from our ports are destined for mines beyond South Africa’s borders. We perceive that local mines are diverting more expenditure to operational and maintenance-related activities.”While investment and large capex expenditure, for the time being, seems to be constrained, the overall outlook for the mining and minerals sector remains positive, says Nel.
