ON NOVEMBER 1 Evergreen will initiate direct sailings every
14 days from Nhava Sheva (Mumbai) to Durban, a move which will
substantially reduce transit times. Cargo destined for other ports in South Africa, Mauritius and South America will be
transhipped at Durban onto Evergreen's weekly ESA service.
Currently the line
tranships this traffic in Singapore involving a total transit time from Nhava Sheva to Durban of 21
days (including transit time in Singapore). However,
the new direct service
takes just 15 days.
A similar six-day saving is available to South America: 29 days from Nhava Sheva to Buenos Aires rather than 35 days previously.
Now shippers from India will have a choice of using the direct sailing to Durban every 14 days or the weekly service via Singapore.
Evergreen deploys a fleet of 2728TEU containerships on the ESA service with the following port rotation:
Hong Kong - Kaohsiung - Singapore - Port Louis - Durban - Cape Town - Buenos Aires - Montevideo - Santos - Cape Town - Durban - Singapore - Hong Kong - Kaohsiung.
