RECENT DOUBTS about Lykes Lines continuing its SA-US multi-purpose shipping service have surely been allayed, with the line renaming three ships it added to its fleet when it absorbed CCAL (Christensen Canadian Africa Line) into its operations.
The Thorshope is now the Lykes Winner, the Thorsriver will be renamed the Lykes Energizer and the Thorslake will become the Lykes Inspirer. They have capacity for 16 000 tons and 692 teu.
The three multi-purpose ships operate with two other Lykes Lines' vessels on the North America-Africa loop, sailing once every 15 days - carrying containers, breakbulk, bulk, and ro-ro cargo, and with substantial reefer capacity.
Lykes Lines upgraded its service in July, with the east coast loop calling
at Montreal, Philadelphia, Savannah, Cape Town, Durban, Cape Town, Philadelphia, Montreal (and Toronto in the summer months).
