THE MAJOR part of Afri-Haul's planning is its relocation to a 30 000 sq m facility in Benoni South which will house under one roof its offices, warehouses and container terminal.
We are discussing introducing a bonded warehouse and bonded yard, and even our own rail siding, says executive chairman Mahesh Ranchhod.
In this situation we would be able to handle bonded cargo directly from any of the ports, and exports for rail and sea would enjoy the same facility.
As opposed to the congestion at City Deep, we would be in a position to provide a seamless service directly to and from any destination or embarkation point.
We are registered as a clearing and forwarding agent, and once the bonded facility is in place we would embark on an aggressive campaign to handle imports and exports in this manner. The plan is to have all of this operative by May 1998, complete with a computerised freight tracking system.
But it doesn't end there. Afri-Haul is also looking at the acquisition of a local transport company which would enable it to have a complete internal delivery service within the borders of South Africa.
New appointments have been made to keep abreast of the expansion.
Mathew Abraham has been appointed m.d. of Afri-Haul after arriving here a year ago from KTI, while Richard Dalton becomes financial director.
