Agricultural Market Access Permits – South Africa/EU Agreement The Department of Agriculture has, under separate notices, invited South African exporters to, and importers from, the 25-member European Union (EU) to apply for market access permits for a range of agricultural products. The applications for quarterly allocations must be made as per the specified closing date which, depending on the type of product, will be 3 November 2005, 28 February 2006, 31 May 2006, or 31 August 2006. It is important to bear in mind that applications made for permits issued on an annual basis from the period 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2006, must be submitted by 3 November 2005. A detailed application also needs to be completed. Tariff applications – Response due The rebate of the customs duty (duty) on other yarn of polyester, partially orientated yarn (non-textured) for the manufacture of textured polyester yarn. Comment due by 25 November 2005. The extension of Rebate Item to read “Parts, for the manufacture of electric hot trays, stoves and glass-top hobs of heading 85.16”. Comment due by November 18. The reduction in the rate of duty on artificial flowers, foliage and fruit, its parts and articles made therefrom. Comment due by 11 November 2005. The reduction in the duty on aluminium wheels for heavy-duty trucks and road tractors and trailers. Comment due by 11 November 2005. Correction notice - The extension of the Rebate Item for parts, for the manufacture of electric hot trays, glass top - stoves and glass-top hobs. Comment due by November, 11. The review of the existing rate of customs duty for track link assemblies with or without shoes; track pins and bushes, and parts thereof. Comment due by 28 October 2005. Anti-dumping amendments – 13 October The anti-dumping duty on carbon black originating in or imported from Australia, is withdrawn as it expired on 13 October 2005. Anti-dumping amendments – 7 October Provisional anti-dumping duties are imposed on polyethylene originating in or imported from Taiwan, Province of China, India and Korea. Response due on 28 October 2005. Anti-dumping application – response due The initiation of a sunset review of the anti-dumping duties on garlic originating or imported from China. Response due by 3 November 2005 Notice of the termination of the investigation into the alleged dumping of polyethylene originating in or imported from China, Indonesia and Thailand. Toyotas lead the way TOYOTAS WERE in strong evidence when K-Line’s ro-ro vessel the Baltic Highway discharged over 2 500 vehicles in Durban recently. Onboard was the biggest Toyota import shipment ever - over 1 600 vehicles. The Baltic Highway trades between the Far East and South Africa via Singapore, turning at Durban for Port Elizabeth to load Volkswagen vehicles for the Far East.
