THE PORT of Durban's development budget for the financial year 2000-2001 is expected to be passed through initial board levels during the next month.
The upgrading of the Point berths (for multi-purpose traffic) and the extension of the container terminal across to Pier 1 are the primary targets.
This extra container handling capacity would be sufficient to meet the expected traffic growth, says development manager Noel Ducray, and would give Portnet a three-to-four year window in which to finalise its next moves.
