DSV has partnered with autonomous aircraft developer Skyways to introduce cargo drones into its offshore energy logistics services, with an initial deployment planned to support North Sea operations from Norden, Germany.
Skyways announced the agreement last week, saying the deployment was scheduled for the northern hemisphere autumn.
The aircraft will connect onshore distribution networks with offshore installations, carrying high-value equipment and critical supplies to wind turbines and energy platforms.
According to Skyways, the service offers an alternative to conventional vessel and helicopter deliveries, with potential benefits in cost, speed and flexibility.
Skyways will supply the aircraft, pilot training and technical, maintenance and regulatory support. DSV will manage local flight staffing and work with aviation authorities to obtain the necessary flight authorisations.
Mathias Vinter, head of drone services at DSV, said the company had selected Skyways following an extensive market evaluation of its aircraft’s range, payload capacity and operational maturity.
The partnership also provides for additional aircraft and expansion into new markets, subject to delivery schedules and regulatory approvals.
