The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and Exporters Eastern Cape have signed an agreement to coordinate lobbying against logistics constraints, tariffs and other trade facilitation issues affecting the region’s exporters.
The partnership joins the chamber’s Trade and Investment Desk and Exporters Eastern Cape’s network to support businesses in addressing export hurdles and accessing international markets.
The organisations will share industry intelligence and strengthen engagement with stakeholders responsible for trade facilitation and the broader export environment, said Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO Denise van Huyssteen.
“For businesses seeking to access international markets, the ability to move goods efficiently, manage trade-related costs and navigate the export environment is critical to their competitiveness,” she said.
The organisations have different mandates but share the goal of supporting businesses and advancing the regional economy, said Exporters Eastern Cape Chairperson Quintin Levey.
The chamber focuses on improving the business environment and supporting investment and employment while Exporters Eastern Cape works to grow exports from the province, he said.
“Through engagement and information sharing, we want to promote and grow the Eastern Cape export market as well as our respective members who are exporters and emerging/prospective exporters,” Levey said.
