The freight industry has
been granted an extension
until June 19 (from June
5) for public comment
on the first set of rules
guiding the Customs Duty
Act.
According to a source
the duty act is far more
technical than the
Customs Control Act on
which public comment has
concluded and feedback
has been received from
the South African
Revenue Service. The
Duty Act also deals with
all the tax aspects around
customs and has to be
looked at in fine detail.
There are some 30
chapters of rules under
the Duty Act on which
comment is due, with the
Excise Act and its Excise
Rules still to follow.
Industry has also
called on Sars to publish
a second draft of all the
rules that have been
commented on for
industry to peruse again
to see all the changes
made, accepted and not
accepted.
