RAY SMUTS PRODUCTIVITY WAS down to around 15 moves an hour at the Cape Town container terminal last weekend due to a broken-down crane. The Noel crane at quay 602 was diagnosed with a faulty motor and only due to resume operations by 14:00 on Monday morning (May 30). Sapo planning manager in Cape Town, David Davids, said the quayside complement continued working despite the wind and rain but that the four vessels in the terminal would be delayed for ten hours on average due to the mechanical problem.
