Containers unpacked before vessel finishes offloading

The combination of neutral groupage, warehousing and logistics services has resulted in constant growth for CFR Freight and ZacPak since their combined services were introduced to the Eastern Cape market, according to CFR Freight Port Elizabeth branch manager, Beverly Brennan.

This is made possible through the sharing of premises by CFR and ZacPak, which moved into the current warehouse and office in the Coega Industrial Zone almost three years ago. “Our processes have been streamlined which has resulted in minimal landside delays and quicker turnaround times.

We essentially offer a container cross-docking service to our clients as vessels arrive in port and containers are available,” says ZacPak Port Elizabeth depot manager Riaz Ismail. “We are well positioned to facilitate inspections in conjunction with the relevant authorities – Sars, SAPS, NRCS, plant inspectors, port health, etc.”

For urgent and time-sensitive shipments, with efficient planning, ZacPak is able to arrange priority movement, handling and unpack of groupage containers. Under special circumstances, these containers may be unpacked before the vessel has finished discharging in either Ngqura or Port Elizabeth ports, according to Brennan. CFR Freight provides 12 regular direct import services into Port Elizabeth from the Far East, Europe regions, as well as North and South America.

Two services, which have now been introduced as guaranteed weekly sailings, originate in Atlanta USA and United Kingdom.
