Responding to increased market demand, Gochill, part of the Goglobal group, has added 21 new steri rooms.According to Cherie Meyer, sales and marketing executive for Goglobal, with the new technology in the cooling, the fruit can now be brought to the correct temperature within 72 hours. “We are now registered for the following markets – being China, India, Malaysia, the EU and Africa. We are also certified by the PPECB and Daff as well as organic fruit handling.”Meyer said one of the biggest challenges during the citrus season was a shortage of trucks in South Africa to bring the product to the port. “Therefore we as a company have reviewed and invested in our off-loading areas and procedures to ensure a quick turn-around time of the trucks. Our average truck turnaround time in the peak season is below three hours per truck. For a port like Durban it can easily be three days in the peak of the season. The continuous issues in the port always remain a challenge.“Fruit is a basic food need and the demand and new plantings are growing continuously from South Africa year on year,” said Meyer . This means bigger harvests which, in turn, call for more cold chain infrastructure. She believes the outlook for the sector is very positive.“Good cold chain management ensures that the product lasts longer on the shelf and companies like the Goglobal Group, which specialise in multiple solutions to multiple markets, gives you an opportunity as a “one stop hub” with specialists in all the aspects of the chain.”Another ongoing area of investment was that of IT, said Meyer. “As the world is moving faster and remote working has become part of our new world, having a proper IT platform to ensure visibility and live information has become essential.”
