CMA CGM will introduce a peak-season surcharge on cargo moving from Asia to South Africa later this month.
The French shipping line said the surcharge would take effect from August 20, based on the loading date, and would remain in place until further notice.
The Peak Season Surcharge will apply to all cargo from Asia destined for South Africa and Mauritius at a rate of US$100 (R1 615) per TEU.
CMA CGM said the measure was being introduced as part of its efforts to maintain reliable and efficient services.
Bunker-related surcharges, terminal handling charges and safety and security-related surcharges could also apply, along with other contingency and local charges, the carrier noted.
For shipments originating in China, the PSS will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or incorporated into the ocean freight rate.
