IN OUR recent report on the anti-dumping duties imposed on US chicken exports (FTW January 19, 2001) we included the Board on Tariffs and Trade (BoT&T) decision - released to us by Deloitte & Touche international trade division.
But we were e-mailed an original draft - before the information was edited, corrected and re-written. A number of errors, therefore, existed in the original story.
The following is the final, corrected report from D&T.
The BoT&T concluded the investigation on the alleged dumping of meat of fowls of the species Gallus Domesticus - originating in, or imported from, the USA.
It imposed final anti-dumping duties on December 27 (retrospective to July 5) on imports classified under the following tariff headings:
Tariff Heading: 0207.14:
Frozen meat of fowls (cut in pieces with bone-in) manufactured by Tyson Foods Incorporated - 224c/kg.
Manufactured by Gold Kist Inc. - 245c/kg.
A residual anti-dumping duty of 696c/kg - excluding that manufactured by Tyson Foods and Gold Kist.
Tariff Heading: 1602.32:
Prepared or preserved meat of fowls (cut in pieces with bone-in) manufactured by Tyson Foods - 224c/kg.
Manufactured by Gold Kist - 245c/kg.
A residual anti-dumping duty of 696c/kg - excluding the above.
NOTE: The residual final anti-dumping duty of 696c/kg was less than the preliminary payment of 725c/kg. Therefore, importers can claim back the 29c/kg overpayment up to December 27.
