SKYCHAIN ONLINE, Emirates' unique online chat facility, is changing the way local shippers do business. Already 40 of Emirates SkyCargo's clients are finding its value, says the
airline's South African based cargo manager Kum Naicker.
The system allows all parties involved in a single consignment in the delivery chain to communicate with each other in real time. The importer, the exporter, the agent and the airline can all be linked into the same conversation which cuts down a tremendous amount of time, says Naicker.
It is so revolutionary that it has naturally taken time for all of our clients to understand it fully. But worldwide reaction has been outstanding and once we have developed it fully in this country its true value will be appreciated.
Naicker returned last week from a seminar in Dubai where the system was explained to Emirates SkyCargo staff from all over the world.
The scope of messages available is huge, he says. Any aspect of international trade and business can be addressed, from rate of exchange to movements, agreements, day on which cargo is sent, cost advice, special handling instructions and any other aspect. The chat facility enables all
parties to resolve issues speedily and with an accurate flow of information.
I wasn't fully aware of its enormity until I attended the Dubai seminar which really opened my eyes to what it offers, says Naicker. Bookings can be made up to 250 days in advance of a consignment being dispatched.
