AIRLINK CARGO International (ACI) has come up with a novel solution for shuttling express cargo economically to and from aircraft. The company has taken delivery of two golf carts at Johannesburg and Cape Town Airports where they will also act as a feeder to a 3.5 ton truck at busy times. At Johannesburg aircraft land and take off at Charlie Apron, about four kilometres from the freight warehouse and staging facility. The apron speed limit is 20 kph which is the vehicle’s optimum speed. A 3.5 ton truck is only in second gear at such speeds and uneconomical to operate. Each cart carries a 400kg payload plus another 500kgs on the trailer. They have been customised to the requirements of the couriers and express freight service providers whom ACI serves. The canopy keeps cargo dry while governed speed ensures cargo care.
Caddying express cargo just got a whole lot more economical
