Bridge breakdown

The main route between Malawi and Mozambique has been cut off after the Mocuba Bridge over Mozambique’s Lucingo River was washed away in the f loods last month. The bridge is on the Nacala Corridor between the port of Nacala and Malawi, chief executive of the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta), Barney Curtis, told FTW. He said that transporters could use an alternative route through the Mandimba/Chiponde border post, adding that the road from Cuamba to Mandimba was not of a high standard and could be impassable to heavy vehicles in the rainy season.
