THE BRAZILIAN government has hit shippers where it hurts most to prevent incorrect information being declared on air waybills and bills of lading and to ensure that original documentation is supplied. Customs authorities will apply a fine of 10% of the merchandise value if the information in the shippers’ and consignees’ fields on the air waybill or bill of lading does not tie up with that on the commercial invoice.
