EDI FOR the small guy.
That's the motivation behind the latest offering from freight systems specialists CSS - a bill of entry (BoE) system on the internet.
"We identified a potential market amongst smaller operations," said m.d. Roger Shaw, "where the small number of entries put through each month do not justify a major system.
"This niche is also not covered by the current systems from outside suppliers."
Basically, what CSS has done is to put a simplified version of its established BoE system on the ÔNet with the facility for users to look up tariffs, do the necessary calculations, and print out the BoE on their in-house PCs.
"In the next month or two," said Shaw, "we also intend this subscriber system to be EDI-compliant. This will give the user the ability to submit the entries electronically, provided they are registered agents with customs."
The system also has the added value of being accessible anywhere in the world.
"For example, it allows foreign suppliers to send a completed BoE with each consignment," Shaw told FTW. "or to calculate the duties for their own export costing."
