Outsourcing of logistics
is by far one of the biggest
global trends in the
perishable sector, according
to Neil Rider, CEO of the
US-based AGRO Merchants
Group.
“The reason for this trend
is simply that companies are
realising that the best use
of capital is for production
and marketing and not
logistics and that it is far
better use of resources to
outsource than to handle it
themselves.”
He said this was
especially the case in Latin
America.
“Another trend that one
cannot ignore is the steady
growth of global food trade
despite the barriers that exist.
We have seen compounded
growth in refrigerated food
produce of around 3.3%
annually which means there
is a need for continued
investment in the cold chain.”
Big shift to outsourcing
