Tanzania’s key transport stakeholders have request the government to immediately suspend the recently introduced 18% Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on transit goods, reports AllAfrica.
Transporters’ Association of Tanzania president, Zakaria Hans Poppe, said that the absence of tax imposition on transit goods "is one of the major factors that attracted many clients and made our port one of the best in the region”. The tax is now creating an unfriendly environment that will not only drive away clients, but also make a number of Tanzanians lose jobs, he told AllAfrica.
Tanzania Freight Forwarders’ Association president, Stephen Ngatunga, said that the private sectors should be involved in making various policy regulations to ensure smooth operations.
