APM MAERSK has its eye on expansion at the Kenyan port of Mombasa, according to the Kenya Ports Authority. Group chief executive officer, Nils Andersen, made his first on-site visit to the port recently. According to KPA MD Abdallah Mwaruwa, 32.1% of total container traffic handled at the port is Maersk Line business. The port’s second biggest customer is Mediterranean Shipping Company with 19.4% followed by Pacific International Lines at 12.8%. Maersk’s average monthly container throughput amounts to 18 794 teus with MSC at 11 348 and PIL at 7 515.
