Angola plans to boost tourism

Tourism in 2014 contributed slightly less than 1% to Angola’s gross domestic product (GDP) from a revenue the equivalent of slightly over R20 billion, according to statistics from the ministry of hotels and tourism, reports weekly newspaper Expansão.

But the Angolan Hotels and Resorts Association (AHRA) has plans to increase that contribution to around 3% by 2017. This included opening about 600 hotels and 117 tourist resorts this year, a move which at the same time created 70 000 jobs.
