South African Airways has launched a new lowcost domestic product, branded Bonsela, designed to provide an airfreight service at road freight rates. The philosophy is simple, says SAA Cargo national sales manager, Ronel Rossouw. “We’re using capacity on our midday f lights to provide a cost-effective alternative that will help to move cargo off the roads. “For shippers using the premium airfreight service, parcels need to be ready at 16:30, they’re collected at night and delivered the next morning – for which they pay a premium. “The Bonsela service operates on SAA’s midday f lights and is ideal for international cargo that arrives in the morning and often waits for the evening f light – or moves by road.” The service has been piloted over the past year with key customers but was officially launched last month.
