African air carriers register fastest growth in freight market

African air carriers’ freight market growth is set to remain in the double-digits for the remainder of 2017 according to the International Air Transport Association (Iata).

This as they continue to record the fastest growth in year-on-year freight volumes, with June registering an increase of 31.6%.

With freight capacity also growing by 7.6%, this has contributed to a 25.9% rise in freight demand for the first half of 2017 in comparison with the previous year.

According to an Iata spokesman, the growth in demand was boosted by very strong growth on the trade lanes to and from Asia, which have increased by almost 60% in the first five months of 2017.
