Afribike desperately needs containers

AFRIBIKE, a non-profit organisation which refurbishes and distributes second-hand bicycles in Africa, is trying to source 50 six metre containers over the next year for use as workshops and storage for its distribution network in South Africa.
The organisation has repaired and distributed over 1000 pre-owned bikes through small black-owned bicycle businesses in the townships to provide residents of those areas with a tool to become mobile and lift themselves out of poverty.
Gustav Erlank, Afribike managing director, said that there was little value in introducing bicycles into an area without the ongoing after-sales support and maintenance needed by bike users. Containers are used to house the Afribike bicycle shops.
Companies wanting to sell or donate containers or assist Afribike in moving bikes internationally should contact Maikel Lieuw Kie Song, Afribike Project Director at (011) 726 1760, 0832609163 or email him at maikel@afribike.org.
