Zim’s trade deficit under the spotlight at ZimTrade conference

Zimbabwe's widening trade deficit can be addressed through trade simplification and other regulatory easing mechanisms, according to ZimTrade chief executive, Sithembile Priscilla Pilime.

She noted in a statement that the trade body would be tackling these issues at its conference later this month. "We shall be tackling impediments affecting the competitiveness of the country's exports," Pilime said, adding that Zimbabwe’s trade deficit had increased by 3.6% to US$1.83 billion in the first six months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014.

The ZimTrade conference will focus on trade facilitation as well as on how the country can leverage the export of services.
