Zimbabwean power utility seeks tariff increase

Zimbabwean power utility Zesa is seeking regulatory approval to increase electricity tariffs by 29% to cover rising operational costs.

A source at Zesa was quoted by state-owned newspaper the Herald as saying: “We arrived at that range because it is cost reflective,” adding that Zimbabwe would also need to import power to mitigate its current power deficit of about 1000 MW.

However, according to analysts, Zimbabwe may not be economically ready for tariff increases.
