Zimbabwe finance and economic development minister, Patrick Chinamasa, has signed a deal with the Export-Import Bank of China chairperson, Hu Xiaolian, that will see the bank providing a US$1.2-billion loan to expand Zimbabwe Power Company’s Hwange thermal power plant.
The deal will allow for the addition of two units at the plant, offering a total capacity of 600 MW.
Hwange currently generates between 380 MW and 400 MW of electricity, according to Bloomberg news agency.
