Zambian president reverses electricity price increase

Zambian president Edgar Lungu has reversed his decision to increase electricity tariffs.

"The president directed the power utility, Zesco, to revert to the old tariffs until measures are put in place to ensure that consumers are protected," presidential spokesman, Amos Chanda, was quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

Zesco increased the average price of electricity by 04.35 US cents in December last year, but the increase has proven to be unsustainable, said Chanda.
