Zambia’s road border with Tanzania remains closed after confirmation last weekend of a spike in Covid-19 cases.

This is despite industry lobbying to have the border reopened at Nakonde, a crucial crossing for the corridor to the Port of Dar es Salaam.

Freight News has learned that it appears that Zambian authorities are preparing to have the border working again as soon as possible.

Social distancing measures of 1.4 metres around Customs staff are currently being prepared and implemented, including pre-clearing of cargo to limit processing time at Nakonde.

It remains unclear though when Nakonde will be allowing traffic on the “Dar Corridor” through again.
