As the yachtsmen taking part in the Volvo Ocean Yacht race left the safe waters of Table Bay harbour last week, they faced up to the challenges of the next leg. And these go beyond the traditional, with piracy around Africa a major concern not only to shipping lines but to yachtsmen as well. “We have procedures in place to address the issue of piracy that will ensure the safety of our teams as they move from South Africa to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates,” a spokesman told FTW.
