One of the world’s leading providers of threat detection machinery, Totalpost Services PLC, has opened its doors in South Africa. The British-headquartered company, with a presence in some 35 countries across the world, made the decision to expand into South Africa in light of the growing interest in Africa and as part of a global expansion strategy that saw the opening of offices in France earlier this year. Another subsidiary is also being opened in Germany. Totalpost Services ZA, with its head office in Midrand Johannesburg, will focus on X-ray security screening, targeting various sectors including the freight industry, said its South African director Bradley Howard. “We are very excited about this new venture and believe that we have much to offer the local freight market in terms Dual View X-ray machines that can take their individual businesses to the next level of security.” The units are affordable and of high quality, said Howard. He said the new South African office would also serve as the company’s gateway into sub-Saharan Africa. And in light of present legislation that will make Dual View screening machines compulsory equipment for freight forwarding businesses, it made sense to establish the company in the country ahead of the end of January 2015 deadline for installations, he said. “Screening of cargo is becoming more and more of a priority,” said Howard. “With the new legislation that will make X-ray screening compulsory there is a renewed focus on equipment.” He said Totalpost Services had not only secured the distribution rights for the Astrophysics range of X-ray security machines – which they also have in parts of Europe and which have been so successful that they have made them one of Astrophysics' top distributors – but will also be supplying a variety of other security equipment including metal detectors, CCTV and access control.
