World trade patterns could change again if, as predicted by Chris Kuehl, economic analyst for the US-based Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA), China loses its competitive pricing edge over the United States by 2016. This will have farreaching repercussions for the whole logistics industry, including shipping. Kuehl’s statement comes at the same time as the IMD World Competitiveness Centre based in Lausanne, Switzerland, scored Hong Kong and the US with 100 points each in the centre’s 2011 World Competitiveness Yearbook. They are followed by Singapore with 98.6 and Sweden with 94.1.
