‘World Cup bid will translate into big cargo volumes’

NOW THAT South Africa has won the Soccer World Cup 2010 bid it most certainly will benefit the shipping industry like never before. Bigger volumes of cargo, which according to business analysts will peak by about 2007/2008, are likely to come from the likes of the construction industry which will import machinery and equipment, and our telecommunications industry which will be updating to ensure that all is up and running for this event only six years from now. Our airports and harbours will be handling volumes never seen before and hopefully our handling equipment will be of such a standard that these bigger volumes can be handled with ease.
