CHARTERING FREIGHT into Africa is a specialist field that demands specialist expertise, and it’s a niche market on which Air Care Cargo is fully focused. The Johannesburg-based company has taken on a number of blue chip clients, all of whom are moving large volumes into the African continent. “We have access to a wide range of aircraft types, from small to medium-sized charters, but more importantly we have the skills pool to manage, co-ordinate and deliver even to the most remote destinations in Africa,” says Brian Hickson, who joined the company recently in a strategic role. A recent project called for the delivery of a range of equipment for two large hotels in Africa, involving the delivery of everything except bricks and cement. “We chartered 39 aircraft to transport everything from floor tiles to bedding for rooms,” said Hickson. The company is also moving a lot of mining equipment into Africa for large contracts in various countries on the continent. “One of our big strengths is our representation at Johannesburg International Airport,” says Hickson. “This operational capability is a huge advantage in terms of management, security control and flexibility.”
