THERE’S A new force in the local air charter market. Headed up by experienced pilot Glen Every, Air Stratus is in the process of acquiring several aircraft which will be available to importers, exporters and clearing and forwarding agents both locally and abroad. Operating out of Johannesburg, the company expects to have four 727 freighters available in the near future. Negotiations are also in progress for the acquisition of Ilyushin aircraft which fill a vital need in airports with limited ground handling support equipment. Passenger aircraft will also be part of the mix. Every, who has been in the airline industry since 1987, set up the company with partners who previously owned motor dealerships. “We identified a niche and believe we can play a role in facilitating cargo movement domestically, into Africa and globally,” he said.
