HELPING TO grow the economy by promoting exports is one of the underlying objectives of recently launched consolidator and logistics company MK Freight Systems. Established by shareholders Mandla Mandela (chairman), Cacho Cabral (business development director) and co-director Mike Kruger, the company has secured global capacity to and from South Africa with airline grouping ‘The Freight Alliance’. “Through the Freight Alliance we have access to six 747 200s as well as DC8s and AN12s,” says Cabral. “We are particularly focused on South African export cargo moving into Africa, but are also in a position to offer global solutions. “We already have contracts into West and East Africa and expect to open other routes soon.” The company is based in Johannesburg and will shortly move into new premises at Johannesburg International Airport where warehousing facilities will also be available. “We plan to work closely with the Ministry of Transport and all stakeholders in the industry in order to promote efficient logistics for the South African export community. “The Freight Alliance has had much interest from other carriers keen to join up and expand our network of destinations. As these interline agreements are formalised, we will make them known to the export and import community in South Africa,” he said.
