World Cargo Services (WCS) has launched a direct weekly import service from Charleston in the USA to Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. It’s part and parcel of the company’s global expansion which has also seen an extension of its weekly service from Ningbo in China to Durban and Johannesburg, said managing director Colin Atkins. In addition, through its joint venture with SEACON, the company is now offering an import and export service from Europe to and from Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, said Atkins. “We have for years had a service from the UK, but with this venture with SEACON Europe, whose head offices are in Antwerp, we are able to offer a service to and from Europe, providing a truly global LCL product range connecting with most major trading partners of South Africa.” Speaking at a gala evening themed “Charleston” in celebration of the new service from the USA, Atkins said WCS had started in 1991, operating on the USA/South Africa route. “We then joined forces with CaroTrans in 1994 as their first agent and have enjoyed a long relationship – now extending to 18 years.” Atkins said as the company had expanded it had extended its global offering for imports and exports by ocean and air.
