KEVIN MAYHEW VELOCITY SOFTWARE Solutions (VSS) is to further develop its instant tracking and documentation processing software to include the new SAD documentation. Developed by Johannesburg-based IT professional, Zaid Boomberg, the real-time tracking package has been well received by both the courier and general cargo sectors, says Boomberg. “The local freight sector is all about full tracking facilities on commonly installed hardware that is not necessarily that sophisticated and we are keen to include SAD documentation,” he said. Boomberg introduced his package about three years ago and it has constantly been enhanced to meet new market requirements. One of the key features of the programme is that it does not require a high level of IT to access information via telecommunications. It bunches information and then dispatches it and receives incoming information on a regular programmable basis. He is planning to extend its features so that it can be accessed via a cellphone that will further increase its reach and connectivity as a back-up to a landline or for areas which the fixed line option does not reach. All Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) cross border traffic will require the use of the new SAD 500 (single administrative document) . It will standardise the SAD 500 in the region – having been piloted on traffic on the trans-Kalahari route between Gauteng and Namibia.
