TRADE DATA to September reveal an 80% year-on-year increase in the value of total exports under Agoa (Africa Growth and Opportunity Act), which allows preferential access to the US from beneficiary countries. Roughly 75% of total exports from these countries entered the US duty-free under Agoa in the year to September. Energy-related exports continue to account for the majority of exports under Agoa, followed by apparel, minerals and metals, and transportation equipment. Disaggregated clothing data in each qualifying category (in effect Agoa’s Rules of Origin categories pertaining to the clothing sector) has exports up 33% on a year-on-year basis to 30 September.
