IBLT&S is among the users in Beira who are actively marketing the port. Direct calls by the likes of PIL, CMA-CGM, Maersk and Delmas have made the port far more competitive for trade with the East, says Christian Roeder, managing director of Independent Beira Logistics Terminals & Services (IBLT&S). “The systems are working, and the port is ready to handle more cargo,” he says. It now provides a viable alternative to Durban and Dar es Salaam for the export of bagged bulk cargo such as minerals and sugar, he says.
