UPS sets up spare parts logistics division

UPS - SCS South Africa has established a new division - Spare Parts Logistics - to provide fast turnaround times for the delivery of spare parts in business critical environments. Headed by director Thore Saether, it offers a nationwide emergency parts distribution service that makes it possible for organisations to avoid investing in storage space and systems needed for the management of spare parts and after sales service operations. The division provides warehouse facilities, holds stock on clients’ behalf, and manages stock levels and distribution of parts. “In addition the company plans and aligns clients’ service parts inventories and resources as well as processes to ensure optimal customer service and responses with minimal risk and cost,” says Saether. “To secure customer loyalty requires offerings that enhance value to customers beyond the initial sale. Effective delivery of after-sales service is a competitive advantage and service parts management is the linchpin of any effective operation,” says Paul Horsfall, managing director of UPS SCS South Africa. ”Delivery and inventory reports can also be produced on a daily, weekly or monthly-basis, tailored to specific business requirements. This provides control over the entire process, which also means that errors and exceptions can be dealt with more efficiently and reduced or even eliminated in the future,” says Horsfall.
