Unnecessary rejection of citrus exports

CEO of the Citrus Growers’ Association, Justin Chadwick.

Incorrect markings on cartons is leading to unnecessary rejection of citrus exports – and a shippers have been urged to take greater care.

“From a regulatory point of view correct carton marking is as important as the phytosanitary status of the fruit in the carton,” according to the Citrus Growers’ Association CEO Justin Chadwick.

“Although the number of cartons rejected is not a lot in the bigger picture it is totally unnecessary if better attention to detail is afforded during packing,” he said.

According to the Department of Forestry and Fisheries, over the 2016 season 61 855 cartons were rejected for incorrect markings for China, 4 005 for South Korea, 25 of 20 consignments for South Korea and 2 740 cartons for Thailand.
